What Studio Wildcard Says
Studio Wildcard’s Code of Conduct covers the Official Network. Breaking it can mean removal of your structures, creatures and items, or a ban from the Official Network and all BattlEye Protected Servers, at Wildcard’s sole discretion.
Its misconduct section is specific about money: ARK items, creatures and services must only be exchanged for other items, creatures or services inside the game, and trading for real-world currency is not an accepted form of trading. The same section allows advertising trades for game resources — its own example is stone swapped for polymer, or a Trike for a Rex — which underlines that barter is fine and cash is not.
The penalty is unusually final. Wildcard’s support page on ban appeals lists Real Money Trading among its unappealable offences, alongside meshing, third-party programs and DDoS, and says an account banned for one of them will not be unbanned under any circumstances. Only one appeal is reviewed per ban.
How Item Delivery Works in ARK
ARK has no premium currency and no official shop for Tek gear, Element, blueprints or tames, so third-party listings are for physical in-game stock: Tek generators and structures, bulk resources, saddles, weapons, fertilised eggs and bred creatures with set stats. Nothing is posted to you and there is no in-game mailbox trade in the base game.
On marketplaces such as PlayerAuctions, delivery is face to face: the seller brings a character onto your exact server and map, agrees a time and place with you, and hands the items over in game, sometimes delivering a full Tek set to your base. That means naming your server, cluster and platform (PvE, PvP or Small Tribes matters), meeting a stranger at your base, and taking the goods into your own inventory and tribe storage.
That handover is also the exposure. The Code of Conduct treats duplication of tames, items and characters as exploiting, and requires players not to benefit from hacking or exploits or stay in a tribe with those who do. In February 2026 Wildcard said its enforcement team wiped about 100 tribes from the Official Network for abusing one exploit at scale. Cheap bulk Tek or top-stat breeding lines that were duped are exactly the stock most likely to be wiped with the tribe holding them.
What Can Go Wrong
- An unappealable ban. Real Money Trading is on Wildcard’s no-appeal list, so a detected cash trade can end access to the Official Network and BattlEye servers for good.
- Tribe wipes, not just item removal. Enforcement in ARK is often aimed at tribes: structures, creatures and items can be removed together, and about 100 tribes were wiped in a single February 2026 action over exploit abuse.
- Duped stock. Items or tames created by duplication are an exploiting offence; buying them can link your tribe to the seller’s method even if you never used it.
- Base exposure. Delivery to your base means a seller character learns your location, layout and defences, which is a real cost on PvP and Small Tribes servers.
- No official refund route. Wildcard does not support cash trades, so a seller who delivers less, or the wrong stats or server, leaves you only the marketplace’s dispute process.
Red Flags to Avoid
- Huge Tek, Element or resource bundles far below other sellers, a common sign of duped or exploit stock.
- Top-stat or mutated breeding pairs and eggs with no breeding history or parent details.
- Sellers who will only deal on Discord and want payment before naming a server, map or delivery time.
- Anyone asking for your Steam, Xbox or PlayStation login, or to join your tribe permanently to “set things up”.
- Promises that a trade is “ban-proof” or undetectable: Wildcard’s own support page says an RMT ban cannot be appealed.
- Payment only by crypto, gift cards or bank transfer, with no marketplace protection.
If You Decide to Go Ahead
We can’t make a cash purchase allowed by Wildcard’s Code of Conduct. If you still buy, keep it off your main tribe where you can, confirm the exact server, map, platform and mode in writing, meet away from your main base on PvP, check stats and quantities before confirming delivery, pay through a marketplace that holds funds until you confirm, and keep screenshots and chat logs. Lower-Risk Alternatives
Trade the way the Code of Conduct allows: swap farmed resources, eggs, saddles and tames for other in-game goods with other tribes on your server. It is slower, but it is the form of trading Wildcard expressly gives as acceptable, and nothing about it carries that unappealable-ban risk.
For content you would otherwise pay a seller for, use official paid add-ons instead: the Fantastic Tames DLC added the Pyromane for $4.99 on all platforms, and Bob’s Tall Tales adds its own creatures, structures and treasure hunts, both sold through Steam and the console stores (GameRant). Unofficial and private servers set their own rules, so check the server owner’s policy before trading there; the Code of Conduct ban risk described here is an Official Network risk.
