What Broadsword Says
Broadsword Online Games puts its real-money rule in the Online Auctioning Policy inside the official Dark Age of Camelot Rules of Conduct. Section 1(a) says it is against Broadsword policy to sell any items, money or equipment using real money, and section 1(b) says Broadsword will ask auctioning services to restrict the selling of equipment, money and items on their services. The ban is on the trade itself, not on one website or payment method, so a marketplace checkout does not make a platinum purchase permitted.
The same policy is unusually specific about one exception: section 1(a) says you may sell or auction your entire account, consistent with the terms in the End User Access and License Agreement. That exception covers a whole account, not gold, platinum or single items sold off it. The Rules of Conduct also warn that repeated violations amount to a breach of that license agreement and may subject your accounts to termination, and section 1(d) of the auctioning policy says Broadsword “can and will take action” on accounts found violating it, which may include suspension or termination.
Platinum, Realms and Face-to-Face Delivery
What sellers advertise as DAoC gold is usually platinum. G2G describes platinum as the most valuable form of currency in Dark Age of Camelot, used to buy high-end weapons and armor and to pay for services such as training and repairs, and says it is earned in game by completing quests, defeating enemies and selling items to vendors or other players. Because platinum sits at the top of the coin ladder, orders are quoted in platinum rather than in gold pieces.
Listings are split by realm as well as by server. NWGold, for example, sells separately for Ywain Albion, Ywain Hibernia and Ywain Midgard, and lists its delivery method as face-to-face: after payment the seller’s character meets yours in game and hands the platinum over in a direct trade. That means the realm on the listing has to match the realm of the character receiving it, and a seller who cannot name your realm, server and meeting place before you pay has not actually described a delivery. Face-to-face also means the trade is a visible, logged in-game transfer between two characters, not an anonymous system payment.
What Can Go Wrong
- Suspension or termination. Broadsword’s stated action for breaking the auctioning policy ranges up the disciplinary ladder set out in the same Rules of Conduct, from a warning and short suspensions of one to four hours or three to seven days through to the account being banished permanently.
- No reimbursement for a bad trade. Broadsword’s item reimbursement policy says items will not be reimbursed for any reason except a verified game bug or anomaly, so platinum lost to a scammer, a wrong-realm delivery or a reversed trade is not something support will restore.
- Account security is on you. The Rules of Conduct make account security the sole responsibility of the customer. If a seller asks for your login and the account is compromised, Broadsword says it will suspend the account while it investigates, and anyone found involved in hacking or theft has all of their accounts banned.
Red Flags to Avoid
- Claims that buying is “100% safe” or that your account cannot be blocked: NWGold’s own platinum page promises buyers they do not need to worry about being blocked, which directly contradicts Broadsword’s published policy.
- Requests for your game login, EA account password or secret word so the seller can “deliver” for you; face-to-face delivery never needs them.
- Listings with no realm named, or stock offered for realms and servers the seller cannot describe, when every real listing is realm-specific.
- Prices far below other Ywain listings, which usually means the platinum came from an exploit, a bot or a stolen account.
- Payment only by crypto, gift cards or bank transfer, with no way to dispute the charge.
If You Decide to Go Ahead
We can’t make a purchase permitted by Broadsword’s policy. If you still buy, confirm the exact Ywain realm and character name in writing first, meet face-to-face in game and never hand over your login, pay with a method you can dispute, start with a small amount, and keep screenshots of the order and the trade. Lower-Risk Alternatives
Broadsword does sell one currency officially: Mithril. Introduced with patch 1.123 in 2017, Mithril is bought as packs through the Origin store, applied to your account as a redeemable code, and spent at the Mithril Merchant in your realm’s capital city. It buys store goods only — the official Mithril Mounts page lists dragon and unicorn mounts priced in Mithril, and the launch newsletter covered mounts and the item patterning system — so Mithril is a way to spend money with Broadsword’s blessing, but it is not platinum and cannot be converted into it. For platinum itself, the supported route is earning it in game through quests, hunting and selling items and loot to vendors and other players, which is slower but carries none of the auctioning-policy risk.
