What Blizzard Says About Buying Gold
Blizzard has been explicit about gold sales for World of Warcraft. An official announcement said the game’s content is Blizzard’s property, that selling in-game property such as coins, items or characters for real money would lead to loss of characters and accounts, and that potential buyers were asked to refrain from buying. More recently, Blizzard said it had banned accounts in North America and Europe tied to a boosting organization that sold gold for real money, called real-money trading a serious violation of its End User License Agreement, and warned that accounts could be actioned for future transactions with that group or for advertising it.

In-Game Gold Payments Are Treated Differently
Blizzard has also said that paying for services such as raid or dungeon clears with in-game gold is legitimate, while selling those things for real-world currency is not. The line it draws is how something is paid for, not what it is. If you are short of gold, the sanctioned route is earning it or trading services for it in game.
Vet the Seller or Marketplace

Delivery and Payment
Gold is delivered by trade, mail or the auction house, so you should only need your character name and realm. Never give out your Battle.net password, email login or authenticator codes. Check the amount received straight away, record the time and delivering character, and be sceptical of “brokers” who collect money and then hand off to a third party.
Use a payment method that offers dispute rights, keep the invoice, order number and chat log, and never move to a private chat or an irreversible payment because a seller asks. Do not file a chargeback after you have received what you paid for — reversed payments are a common way sellers lose money and a common reason delivered currency gets flagged later.
Red Flags to Avoid
Prices far below what other reputable sellers charge for the same amount; guaranteed “no-ban” claims; requests for your login, authenticator codes or remote access; unsolicited offers in chat or Discord; look-alike domains; and pressure to pay by an untraceable method.
