Loot is not money until you extract. If you die in the Exclusion Zone, everything you are carrying is up for grabs — the only exceptions are your secure container and anything a retrieval pet can bring back. A raid’s profit is real only at the evacuation point, and the zone’s poison timer means every raid ends in a run for an exit whether you are ready or not.
Two currencies sit between the loot and your wallet. What you scavenge in the zone is valued in Luna, the game’s basic currency, which NetEase’s patch notes show being exchanged for New Pounds in Hidden Smuggling, reached through the Trading Center. New Pounds are the spendable money — Heidi’s Store, Black Market purchases, shelter upgrades, insurance. Think of a raid as earning Luna and a quiet minute at the Trading Center as banking it.
What to Pick Up: Value Per Slot
Loot falls into seven broad types — health and food, armor and helmets, backpacks, weapons and modifications, ammo and grenades, and the sell-only valuables — and your backpack space is the real budget. The sell-only class is where farming lives: NetEase’s own update notes name the high-value tier that locked rooms are stocked with — Graphics Cards, Commemorative Crypto Coins and the Dragon of Legacy among them. Learn that short list and grab on sight; everything else is judged against the slot it takes.
Two containers discipline the run. Your secure container keeps its contents even if you die — beginner guides are blunt about the use: the best loot and your keys live there, never in the open bag. And player kills are a loot source with a price: a defeated Firefly’s gear is worth exactly what it costs you in risk, which is why this guide treats fighting as a tax on farming, not the farm itself.
Maps & Locked Rooms
| Map | What the loot guides say |
|---|---|
| Windswept Harbor | Heavily patrolled, with Elite Marauder spawns; the rare-loot area sits behind NPC-infested ground |
| Mt. Akiyama | The Villa at the center holds the best loot and most of the players; a GPU spawn sits behind a keycard |
| ARK Company | GPU spawn and chances at Legendary loot, guarded by Elite Marauders and the boss NPC Raymond, who holds the underground |
| Kaido — K1 Occupied Zone | Named in NetEase’s mini-map updates (Outpatient Building, Inpatient Department interiors) |
Across all of them, the pattern is locked rooms: doors that need keys or keycards, stocked with higher-tier loot and the high-value items above — NetEase periodically rebalances exactly how much supply sits in the locked rooms of Mt. Akiyama and Windswept Harbor, which tells you where the designed money is. Carry keys in the secure container so a key survives a death. If your own kit is the problem, Marauder entries hand you a provided loadout instead of risking yours — the mode community beginner guides point broke players at, since the other Marauders are your allies and only Fireflies are enemies.
Heidi vs the Black Market
Extracted loot converts two ways. Heidi’s Shop buys and sells at fixed prices — instant, predictable, and the baseline every other price is measured against; her stock of gun modifications, armor and battle items is the default re-kit. Two gates apply: high-end items unlock only at a specific level or after completing a quest for one of the traders, and NetEase has noted that purchase prices for some of her items now move with the market situation rather than sitting fixed.
The Black Market is player-to-player trading, and it is where demand lives: quest items, craftable items and the materials used to upgrade your shelter trade there at prices Heidi never pays — the wiki’s warning is that they do not come cheap, which cuts both ways when you are the seller. The Trading Center wraps both together with Hidden Smuggling: sell surplus gear and valuables to Heidi for speed, list the in-demand pieces on the Black Market for margin, and convert Luna to New Pounds in the same trip.
Task Income: The Quiet Money
NPC tasks pay in currency, materials and unlocks at once, and several pay in exactly what a farmer is short of. Heidi’s weapon search requests were updated to reward Fine Iron and Fine Steel — workbench materials you would otherwise buy. Avril posts Daily Quests supporting the Third Organization’s weapon research. NetEase has even re-pointed some task goals at the currency itself: tasks whose objective is searching for New Pounds. And missions in general pay out EXP and coins immediately on completion, per the official notes — no extraction risk attached, which makes a task chain the safest income in the game. Run them between raids; they subsidize the loadouts the raids risk.
The Season Reset Changes the Math
Lost Light runs on seasons that end in the Pheromone Outbreak reset, and the official season rules are blunt about cash: Fireflies who fail to collect 3 Targeted Serums have their stored property seized — and NetEase’s published reset lists put New Pounds and the other cash items (Gold Bars among them) on the cleared list, alongside Storage, Arsenal and Weapon Rack contents. Character level, task progress and Shelter Units reset either way; Rank and Military Rank are inherited under their own rules.
The farming conclusion writes itself: do not hoard New Pounds into a reset. Early and mid-season, cash is a tool — better kits, shelter upgrades, insurance. Late season, convert the balance into the things the reset rules let you keep and into finishing the serum objective, because a seven-figure wallet on reset day is worth exactly what the Underground City says it is: nothing.
Buying New Pounds & Accounts
Because New Pounds are this tradeable, a third-party market exists for them — and it is one of the reviewed markets on this site. Compare the New Pounds sellers, account sellers and boosting services on the Lost Light page before buying anywhere, and note the caution flag that page carries: FunPay, the player-to-player marketplace listed there, is flagged Caution in our ratings. The season reset above is also a pricing fact: currency bought late in a season has an expiry date whether the listing mentions it or not.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make New Pounds in Lost Light?
Extract loot from the Exclusion Zone: its value is held in Luna, which you exchange for New Pounds in Hidden Smuggling at the Trading Center. Sell gear and valuables to Heidi for fixed prices or list in-demand items on the Black Market, and run NPC tasks — missions pay EXP and coins on completion with no extraction risk.
Should I sell to Heidi or on the Black Market?
Heidi is instant and fixed-price — right for bulk gear and re-kitting. The Black Market pays player prices for what other Fireflies need: quest items, craftables and shelter-upgrade materials. Sell speed to Heidi, sell scarcity to players.
What are the most valuable items to grab?
The high-value tier NetEase stocks in locked rooms: Graphics Cards, Commemorative Crypto Coins and the Dragon of Legacy. Map guides also mark GPU spawns on Mt. Akiyama (behind a keycard) and at ARK Company — both guarded, which is the point.
Do you keep your New Pounds between seasons?
Not safely. The Pheromone Outbreak reset clears cash items — New Pounds and Gold Bars are named in the official reset lists for Fireflies who miss the 3 Targeted Serum objective — and Shelter Units and character level reset regardless. Spend cash down late in the season.
