Issue 28: Legacy, Page 4Released

Onslaught PvPvE Arena + Citadel TF Revamp

  • Issue 28: Legacy, Page 4 landed October 6, 2026 (Homecoming’s official Patch Notes board): a new PvPvE Arena mode, Onslaught — two teams of 3–8 players in 30-minute timed matches, each side escorts NPC lane soldiers, and only the soldiers can damage the enemy base core.
  • The Citadel Task Force was revamped as “Industrial Evolution” (Hero, levels 25–30); the original Citadel Task Force is retired to Ouroboros. New powersets Light Affinity and Sonic Aura arrived, Claws and Stone Armor were proliferated to Tankers and Brutes, and a new Kallisti Wharf story arc, “Prime Time Sublime”, opened.
  • Balance adjustments touch Traps, Force Field, Sonic Resonance, Empathy and Super Strength, with damage-cap increases for several archetypes, plus new costume parts, a new wave of Aether rewards and Supergroup base texture swapping. The annual Halloween event runs alongside the patch, October 6 to November 3. Content ships as numbered Pages of an Issue, a few per year, with smaller hotfix posts between them on the same board.
For buyers

There is no legitimate market to price here — Homecoming is a free, fan-run server and account trading is against its rules — so this entry’s buyer value is the calendar: the Halloween window closes November 3, and the new powersets (Light Affinity, Sonic Aura) are the builds players level while the event runs.

Homecoming Server Profile

City of Heroes officially shut down in 2012. Homecoming is a community-run continuation that, as of January 2024, holds an official server license from NCSoft — making it the recognized way to keep playing today. It runs a custom Issue 27 build that extends past what the original studio shipped, with power proliferation across archetypes and a steady patch cadence.

Wipe & Reset History

Homecoming began in 2019 as a secret server called SCoRE before its existence leaked, then operated openly for years before reaching an official licensing deal with NCSoft in January 2024. MMODude found no report of a full character wipe across that history.

Wipe and fresh-server announcements for Homecoming are posted on forums.homecomingservers.com first.

Getting Started on Homecoming

Homecoming runs Issue 27 (custom) (launched April 2019). Joining takes three steps; where forums.homecomingservers.com gives different instructions, follow those.

1
Visit the official site. Go to forums.homecomingservers.com to confirm the server is currently active and find the current client or launcher download.
2
Download the client or launcher. Get the Homecoming client or launcher from the download linked on forums.homecomingservers.com, not from a third-party mirror or an old City of Heroes retail install.
3
Create an account and log in. Make the account on forums.homecomingservers.com with a password you use nowhere else. A community-run server does not have an official publisher’s account-recovery or security team behind it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe and legal to play on a private server?

Homecoming is an unofficial City of Heroes server running Issue 27 (custom), and like most private servers it operates without a license from the game’s publisher. Homecoming has been running long enough to build a track record; as with any private server, use a unique password and don't reuse account credentials from other sites.

How do I get started on Homecoming?

Visit the official website at https://forums.homecomingservers.com/ for the current client download and setup instructions. Use the client or launcher linked there rather than a retail City of Heroes install.
