Apex changes its ranked rules often, and the sources disagree. The numbers below for ranked come from ApexRanked and are labeled for Season 30, Split 2. The wiki's ranked page describes an older system with different thresholds. If a number matters to you, check the in-game rank screen. XP and level facts are more stable and come from EA's own FAQ.
If you are looking for the currencies side of progression, read our Apex Legends Crafting Metals farming guide. This page is about getting XP and climbing the ladder.
Two Ladders, Not One
| Account level | Ranked tier | |
|---|---|---|
| Resets? | No | Yes, each split or season (see the rules below) |
| What it earns | Packs, Legend Tokens | Rank badges and season rewards |
| Can lose progress? | No | Yes, you pay an entry cost |
| Source | Confirmed EA FAQ | Reported ApexRanked, wiki |
The practical point: leveling is risk-free, ranked is not. Treat unranked matches as your XP engine and ranked as a separate decision.
Where Account XP Comes From
EA does not publish its XP formula, but the community wiki (Reported) lists the per-match values:
| Action | XP |
|---|---|
| Win the match | 900 |
| Top-five finish | 300 |
| Time survived | 3 per second |
| Kill | 50 |
| Damage dealt | 0.25 per point |
| Ally revive | 25 |
| Ally respawn | 200 |
| First kill of the day | 500 |
| Champion eliminated | 500 |
The wiki also says playing with friends adds a 5% bonus to time-survived XP, 10% with two friends, and that Battle Pass boosts stack and add 10% to top-five and win XP. This table is a snapshot from the wiki, so confirm in the post-match screen.
Putting Numbers on a Match
Here is an example, using only the wiki's values and assuming a win also earns the top-five bonus. This is our arithmetic, not a measured result.
| Match | Time | Kills | Damage | XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early exit | 4 min (240 s) | 1 | 150 | 720 + 50 + 37.5 = about 808 |
| Top-five run | 15 min (900 s) | 2 | 400 | 2,700 + 100 + 100 + 300 = about 3,200 |
| Win | 20 min (1,200 s) | 4 | 800 | 3,600 + 200 + 200 + 300 + 900 = about 5,200 |
Two takeaways. First, time survived is the largest line item in all three, because 3 XP per second is 180 per minute. Second, a win's 900 XP equals eighteen kills, but a long, safe game that ends in the top five already beats an aggressive short one. At 18,000 XP per level (wiki), the top-five example is roughly five and a half such matches per level.
What Each Level Gives You
EA's FAQ says each level-up gives rewards such as a pack, Legend Tokens or both. From the FAQ, level 500 is the cap, tokens come at 600 per level from level 4, and packs follow a schedule that thins out as you climb. The wiki adds that XP per level scales up from 100 at level 1 and settles at 18,000 from level 58 (Reported). The early game is cheap: levels 1 to 18 climb from 100 to 12,200 XP according to the wiki.
What that means for leveling. The first few hours produce levels very fast and, per EA, a pack for each one up to 20. After that you are paying a constant 18,000 XP for slower rewards, so keep your expectations steady. The reward for more play does not stop, but it stops accelerating.
Changes Worth Knowing in 2026
- Season 28 (February 10, 2026). Dexerto reports that XP caps were removed in Bot Royale Evolved and challenge progression was enabled there, which gives you an unrestricted practice mode that still progresses challenges. Ranked Drop Zones were removed and matches returned to a dropship start.
- Season 30 (August 4, 2026). Reduced high-tier loot spawns across maps and a reworked energy ammo system, per esports.gg. In our reading, slower loot makes survival more valuable, and survival is the biggest XP line.
The Ranked Ladder in Season 30 Split 2
ApexRanked lists these tiers. RP is Ranked Points.
| Tier | RP floor | Entry cost |
|---|---|---|
| Rookie | 0 | 0 |
| Bronze | 1,000 | 10 |
| Silver | 3,000 | 20 |
| Gold | 5,500 | 38 |
| Platinum | 8,500 | 48 |
| Diamond | 12,000 | 65 |
| Master | 16,000 | 90 |
| Apex Predator | Ladder-based, top 750 per platform | 90 |
Each tier below Master has four divisions. Reported Rookie and Bronze have no demotion protection. Silver through Master get three matches of protection. Apex Predator has none.
The entry cost is a tax on bad games. Every ranked match costs RP up front, so a match where you drop and die early nets a loss equal to the entry cost. At Master that is 90 RP per game. The old wiki version of the system (from about Season 13) put Master at 100 and Platinum at 55, so the idea is stable even though the figures have moved.
The wiki's older ranked page also describes how RP is earned: placement RP from 5 for 14th or worse up to 125 for fifth place, 10 to 26 per kill or assist, with kill value halved after six, a top-five streak bonus of 10 to 40 RP, and a 50% bonus for eliminating a higher-ranked player. Those were Season 13 era figures. Use them for the shape of the system, not the precise numbers.
How to Climb Without Throwing RP Away
- Treat survival as the main score. The XP table and the older RP table agree: surviving into the top five pays far more than a single kill.
- Do not play ranked to level. It pays the same XP as unranked but risks RP.
- Know your tier's entry cost. At 90 RP, Master requires a consistent top-five rate just to hold ground.
- Use the protection windows. In Silver through Master you get three matches at the threshold before demotion, per ApexRanked.
- Play with a full squad you can communicate with. The wiki's older page mentions loss forgiveness for teammate abandonment, but it is capped, so do not depend on it.
Common Mistakes
- Grinding ranked for account level. Level is the same XP either way.
- Trusting old RP charts. Entry costs and thresholds have changed between seasons.
- Buying a boost. EA's FAQ says nothing allowing account sales or progression services, so nothing from EA suggests a legitimate sale route.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the account level cap in Apex Legends?
EA's FAQ says the cap is level 500. After that, EA says you keep earning Legend Tokens by gaining enough XP in matches.
Does the Battle Pass reset my level?
No. EA says your player level stays the same and does not reset. You get a new Battle Pass level each season instead.
Do kills or placement give more XP?
Per the wiki, a win is worth 900 XP and a top-five finish 300 XP, while a kill is 50 XP. Time survived adds 3 XP per second and damage adds 0.25 XP per point, so surviving and fighting both matter.
What does it cost to enter ranked?
It rises with your tier. In Season 30 Split 2, ApexRanked lists an entry cost of 10 RP in Bronze, rising to 90 RP in Master. Rookie has no entry cost.
Is there demotion protection?
ApexRanked says Silver through Master have three-match protection. Rookie and Bronze have none, and Apex Predator has no buffer.
How many players reach Apex Predator?
ApexRanked says the Predator cap is the top 750 players per platform. The wiki, describing an older system, also said top 750.
