What Career Rank Unlocks
Career Rank unlocks base weapons, gadgets and loadout slots, and Hone notes the important unlocks are front-loaded in ranks 1 to 100. Assignments open at ranks 10, 15 and 20. Weapons and vehicles level separately through Hardware Mastery, with 50 levels each, and XP earned while an item is equipped counts toward it even without kills.

Best Modes for XP
Hone rates Breakthrough highest for XP, thanks to constant fights around objectives, then Rush, with fewer players but M-COM bonuses. Conquest rates lowest because of travel time between spread-out flags. ExitLag adds Domination for kill-heavy sessions.
Squad and Class
A full four-player squad gets a 5% passive XP bonus and unlocks squad damage assists, worth double a normal assist. Support (revives, resupplies) and Engineer (repairs) earn XP between kills, which is why medics climb quickly.
Dailies, Assignments and Boosters
ExitLag puts daily challenges at 5,000 to 10,000 XP each and a full set of weekly assignment stages at up to 50,000 XP. XP boosters double XP for a set time; Hone advises activating them after you spawn, because the timer runs during matchmaking.
Portal Farming Limits
DICE cut back bot farming in Portal: servers with bots or modified rules give heavily reduced or time-based XP, and mastery, challenge and seasonal progress is limited to verified servers, per Hone and ExitLag. Look for servers labelled with full XP before you farm there.
