Fish It Leveling Guide: Levels, Rod Tiers, Islands & the Index

Fish It has real levels, and they matter in a specific way: level is the key ring for the island ladder, while your rod is the power curve that decides what each island’s water actually pays. Progression stalls when the two fall out of step — a high level on a starter rod catches starter fish in expensive water; a rich rod at a low level cannot reach the water it was bought for. This guide keeps the three threads — level, gear, zones — braided, with the fish index as the structure that organises the whole climb.

Read This First: Level Opens, Gear Earns

Fishing is the XP and the income at once. Every catch advances your level and your coin balance together, so there is no separate grind to optimise — only the question of where you fish, which sets both rates at once. Nothing verified sells levels for this game; what the market sells is coins and items, priced in our buying guide, and they accelerate the gear thread only. The level thread is played, not bought.

Frame the climb by its documented shape: the starter island carries the early levels and the first rod tiers; the mid-game moves through Tropical Grove and Kohana as levels and rods allow; and the late water — Volcano, Crater, the Depths, Lost Isle — is where levels, gear and income all run at their highest rates together.

Early Game: Fisherman’s Island Done Properly

Start where you spawn. Fisherman’s Island is built as the tutorial economy: steady commons, the Rod Shop and Bobber Shop on site, boats and a travelling trader in reach. The early goals are mechanical — learn the cast and the catch timing, favourite anything rare so it is never bulk-sold, and convert catches into the first rod upgrades without detouring into cosmetics. The progression guides put the island’s useful range at roughly the first ten levels for basics, with the real departure closer to level 50 on a mid rod.

Redeem codes and finish quests as they appear: starter potions and quest rewards are the documented early supplement, and luck potions spent in the right water are worth more than the same potion spent at the dock.

Mid Game: The Island Ladder

The mid-game is a sequence of unlocks, each bought with the last zone’s income: a boat first (the money guides put a small boat at around 7,000 coins), opening Tropical Grove’s higher-value table; then rod tiers — the Lucky Rod at 10,000 coins is the early landmark — and enchantments layered onto the rod you actually fish with, luck and value lines first. Kohana and the Coral Reefs carry this stretch, where rare fish and mutations start appearing often enough to plan around.

Keep the step rule: never buy the zone before the gear, and never buy the gear tier your current water cannot pay back. Each island’s table assumes a rod that can hold its strong fish; arriving under-geared converts a rich zone into snapped lines and slow levels.

Late Game: Volcano, Depths and Lost Isle

The late ladder is where the three threads converge. The Volcano and Crater Island pay the game’s highest catch values; The Depths pays in Enchant Stones, the enchant economy’s feedstock; and Lost Isle, opened by diving gear, holds exotic fish worth tens of thousands of coins each in the money guides’ figures. Rod tiers at this level — Chrome at 437,000 coins, Hazmat at 1,300,000 from the Traveling Merchant — are bought with the previous zone’s income and immediately raise the next zone’s.

The index is the endgame’s structure: every zone’s table is a checklist, and completing it routes you into water you would otherwise skip, at the levels where its fish finally hold value. Treat Secret and Mythic entries as the long-term goals they are, and let events and weather windows — the documented mutation and luck multipliers — do the heavy lifting when they align with a missing entry.

A Sensible Progression Order

Buying Progression & Coins

Bought coins buy gear tiers early — that is their whole progression effect, and it is a real one, since rod luck is the game’s power curve. The verified routes are IGGM’s items product (packs and coins, $0.39 to $40.00) and PlayerAuctions coin listings delivered as high-value fish trades under escrow, both set out in our buying guide. Levels themselves are not for sale in the verified record. See the Fish It page for the reviewed market.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you level up fast in Fish It?

Fish the best water your rod can hold: levels and coins come from the same catches, so the fastest leveling is the highest-value zone your gear survives — Fisherman’s Island early, then the island ladder as boats, rods and level unlock it.

What actually gates progression in Fish It?

Two keys together: player level, which the island ladder is paced by (the first real departure comes around level 50), and rod tier, whose luck stat decides what each zone’s table pays. Falling behind on either stalls both.

What is the fish index for?

It is the game’s bestiary and the endgame’s structure: each zone’s fish table is a checklist, and chasing missing entries routes you through every zone at the point your level and gear make it profitable.

Can you buy levels in Fish It?

No verified service sells levels. What is sold is coins and items — IGGM’s product and PlayerAuctions’ fish-trade coin listings — which buy rod tiers early. The level thread itself is earned by fishing.
