Lineage 2M Leveling Guide: Class Advancement, Codex & Gear

Lineage 2M progression is three ladders on one character: your level, your class — which advances by quest at fixed levels and can also arrive as a summonable card — and the Codex, a permanent stat layer that never resets. This guide takes them in order: when questing stops being the fastest EXP, what each advancement step means, and where the permanent power lives.

Three Ladders, Not One

Your level is the visible ladder and the one that gates content. Your class is a collection as much as an identity: you advance your starting class through exclusive quests, and you can also summon or compose entirely different class cards and switch into them — taking on that class’s appearance and stats (NC’s basic guide). Your Codex and collections are the quiet ladder: registered items, monster records and completed class sets paying permanent, account-wide stats that survive every class swap. Players who only watch the level bar are missing two of the three.

Quests Until 40, Then the Grind

The main questline is the fastest early route — it unlocks maps and systems while paying EXP, gear and materials (MMOexp’s beginner guide). NC’s guide lists four quest types feeding it: Missions (the shared main story), Trust quests (via the Statue of Einhasad or monster-dropped scrolls, with random bonus rewards), Victory quests (a guided tour of the game’s systems, unlocked in level order) and Achievements. MMOexp’s progression guide marks the turn precisely: at level 40, main-quest EXP slows significantly and monster grinding becomes the fastest route — from there your rate is set by zone choice (the farming guide has the zone tables), party play, and boosters timed to your sessions: the progression guide names Scrolls of Growth, Adena EXP Potions and clan buffs as the standard stack.

Two systems ride on top of raw grinding. Vitality raises both EXP gain and loot drop rate — the beginner guide’s advice is to save it for elite zones and dungeons rather than burning it on routine mobs. Einhasad’s Grace (NC’s guide) pays bonus EXP and adena while active, drains as you earn, and refills offline or in safe zones. A leveling session planned around full Vitality and full Grace is simply a different rate from one that is not.

Class Advancement: The Quest Ladder

Your starting class advances through exclusive quests at five fixed points, per NC’s basic guide:

LevelAdvancement step
1Base class (chosen at creation)
5First advancement — exclusive quest
40Second advancement — exclusive quest
65Third advancement — exclusive quest
80Fourth advancement — exclusive quest

Advancement is not the only way classes arrive. NC’s guide is explicit that you can also change into a class acquired by summoning or composing a class card, that doing so applies that class’s appearance and stat profile, and that weapons and available skills follow the class&rsquos main weapon. Rare-grade classes and above carry Awakening Skills that enhance existing skill effects — which is why high-grade cards are chased. Skill learning is unusually open: skill books can be bought from village Skill Book Merchants and drop from monsters, and any class can learn any book — the weapon you hold is what gates which skills you can actually use. MMOexp’s beginner guide adds the practical sources for cards: summons, events and milestones, and rare drops and bosses.

Codex & Collections: The Permanent Layer

The Codex converts your farming leftovers into stats that never reset. JoyRulez’s breakdown of the monster/item Codex: completing entries by collecting monster drops grants Attack, Defense, HP, Accuracy and Evasion — account-wide bonuses that apply to every class you play, which is why the guide calls Codex progress mandatory rather than optional, and notes even low-tier accessories are worth registering. MMOexp’s class guide makes the same point from the card side: every class unlock adds permanent stat bonuses to your whole roster (it names attack, movement speed and defense) — a “failed” pull is still permanent power.

Class collections complete the layer: NC’s guide states that when you have acquired all the classes a collection requires, its collection effect applies automatically. The F2P routes the class guide lists are patience-shaped: earn summon cards through quests and events, and buy cards with adena in the shop, which resets daily. Nothing here is fast, and none of it ever goes away — that is the trade the whole system offers.

Gear Grades & Enhancement

Gear comes in five grades (MMOexp’s beginner guide):

GradeColour
CommonWhite
UncommonGreen
RareBlue
EpicPurple
LegendaryRed

The beginner guide’s priorities: gear is the single biggest driver of performance, and enhance your weapon first — attack power scales better early than armor does. Enhancement uses scrolls and stones, and the same guide carries the warning that defines the system: at higher levels a failed enhancement can downgrade or destroy the item. MMOexp’s class guide turns that into a working rule — enchant to about one level above the safe point (its example: safe at +6, stop at +7) and save serious attempts for gear you intend to keep. Separately, don’t over-invest in your first class’s stats: the class guide’s advice is to stay flexible early, because the class you ultimately main may arrive by card long after your first advancement.

Agathions & the Clan

Agathions are Lineage 2M’s summoned companions: MMOexp’s class guide notes that even low-tier Agathions provide useful stat boosts alongside their auto-loot function — they are a progression system, not a cosmetic, and upgrading them whenever possible is the guide’s standing advice. And the clan is the social multiplier — JoyRulez’s checklist credits an active clan with exclusive buffs, clan coins, raid access and weekly quests, and flatly states you progress faster inside one; clan buffs are also one of the three EXP boosters the progression guide stacks for grind sessions.

Buying Boosting

Piloted leveling and farming services exist for this game because the grind is the game — our Lineage 2M page lists the reviewed boosting service alongside the Diamond sellers. What that time actually buys is spelled out above: advancement quests at 5/40/65/80, Codex entries and grades of gear. The earning side is in our adena farming guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do class advancements happen in Lineage 2M?

Through exclusive quests at five points — levels 1 (base class), 5, 40, 65 and 80 — per NC’s basic guide. Separately, classes can be summoned or composed as cards at any time and switched into, and Rare-grade classes and above bring Awakening Skills.

When does grinding become faster than questing?

Around level 40. MMOexp’s progression guide marks it directly: main-quest EXP slows significantly at 40, and from there monster grinding — in the right zone, with Scrolls of Growth, Adena EXP Potions and clan buffs timed to the session — is the fastest route.

What is the Codex in Lineage 2M?

A permanent collection layer. Registering monster drops and items completes Codex entries that pay account-wide Attack, Defense, HP, Accuracy and Evasion (JoyRulez); completing required class sets triggers collection effects automatically (NC); and every class card unlocked adds permanent roster-wide stat bonuses (MMOexp). None of it resets when you change class.

What are the gear grades in Lineage 2M?

Five: Common (white), Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), Epic (purple) and Legendary (red). Enhance weapons first, and respect the failure rule — at higher enhancement levels a failure can downgrade or destroy the item, so community guides stop about one level past the safe point.
