Read This First: Mastery Is the Ladder
In a complete game, mastery is the progression that remains — and it is entirely yours to earn. Nothing in the verified market sells it: the original SMITE’s shelves are accounts and small item bundles (our buying guide), and a bought account arrives with somebody else’s mastery record attached to gods you have not learned. This guide assumes the satisfying version: your roster, your mastery, your account.
The roster is the climb’s terrain. The account market prices God Pack access first among an account’s assets because the full god roster is the game’s complete content set — in a finished game, that set is fixed and fully learnable, which makes SMITE’s mastery climb the rare one with a visible summit: every god, played to standard. Few live games let a player finish learning them; this one, now, does.
Breadth, Then Depth: The Mastery Order
Work the roster in two passes. The breadth pass: play every god enough to know their kit from the inside — their ranges, their escapes, their ultimates’ timings — because playing against a god well requires having been that god. Breadth is defensive progression: it removes the matchup surprises that decide games at every level of the original’s ladder. The depth pass: take the gods of your main roles to true mastery — the reps where a kit stops being information and becomes instinct.
Order roles by your team’s needs and your own aptitude together. A master of an unplayed role has spent the climb on a shelf; a competent player in every role with genuine mastery in two is the account shape that wins drafts and games alike — and the shape a finished roster makes achievable, since no new god is arriving to restart the breadth pass.
Account Progression: The Frame Around Mastery
Account level and its rewards frame the mastery climb: the account’s own progression track, advanced by the same play, and the collection (our farming guide) accumulating beside it — skins, including the limited and T5 pieces that mark an account’s eras. In a maintenance game these layers are the account’s biography rather than its power curve, and they should be enjoyed that way: the goal is a complete account, not a current one, because “current” no longer moves.
That completeness framing is also the honest answer to “what is there to level for”: the game as it stands, in full, on live servers. Players who need a live-service treadmill have SMITE 2; players who want a finished game mastered end to end have this one, and its progression systems are unchanged by the maintenance status that freezes its content.
A Sensible Mastery Order
- Breadth pass first: every god played enough to know their kit from inside — it is defensive progression against every matchup.
- Depth pass second: genuine mastery in your two main roles’ gods, to instinct standard.
- Let account progression and the collection accumulate from the same play; chase limited-skin windows when they exist in events you are already playing.
- Judge progress by the roster’s completeness, not by a season’s ladder — the game’s content is fixed, and the summit is visible.
- Verify any account purchase in game (God Pack, skin tiers) if you buy regardless — the thin shelf’s rules are in our buying guide.
Buying Leveling & Accounts
Mastery cannot be bought onto your own account by any verified product — what is sold is whole accounts (2 offers at our fresh check) and item bundles (10 offers, $5.00 to $5.99), covered in our buying guide. A bought account’s mastery record is its previous owner’s; this guide’s climb is how you get your own. See the SMITE page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you level up in the original SMITE?
Through god mastery and account progression: a breadth pass across the full roster (every god learned from the inside), then genuine mastery depth in your main roles. In a finished game the roster is fixed, so the climb has a visible summit — the whole roster, to standard.
Is the original SMITE still playable?
Yes — its servers remain available, per Hi-Rez’s February 2025 statement, though no further major updates are planned and SMITE 2 is the studio’s focus. Progression systems work as they stand.
Does SMITE 2 progress carry from the original?
They are different games with separate accounts and markets — this guide covers the original only, and nothing in the verified record for the original’s market prices SMITE 2 goods. SMITE 2 is covered on its own page.
Can you buy god mastery?
No verified product sells mastery on your own account. What is sold is whole accounts — whose mastery records are their previous owners’ play — and item bundles. Mastery itself is earned, god by god.
