WoW Forever Leveling Guide: 1–60

Forever keeps Classic's slow curve, adds 1,000+ quests and rewrites how dungeons pay out. Here is what is confirmed, how to budget your hours, and what to test in the beta before November 4.

WoW Forever has not launched. The beta opened at a level 20 cap, rises to 30 after a couple of weeks, and ends October 21, so nobody can confirm what levels 31 to 60 feel like. This guide combines what Blizzard has confirmed with Classic's 1–60 structure, which Forever keeps, and marks every number that comes from Classic or community estimates. Blizzard has not published an optimized quest route, and any guide claiming one for Forever is guessing.

Many leveling guides for Forever are already online, and a lot come from boosting and gold sites. This one focuses on the parts you can plan around: the confirmed XP rules, how to budget your time, where the new content sits, and what to test in the beta. If you want class builds and talent picks, Icy Veins and Mobalytics publish them. For the gold side, see our WoW Forever gold farming guide.

How XP Works

The curve is reported to be unchanged from Classic, which is famously slow, and Blizzard is not trying to change how fast combat feels. What has changed is where the XP comes from:

How Long 1–60 Takes

No one has measured Forever's 1–60 yet, because the beta stops at 30. Strong Classic players are commonly said to reach 60 in about 100 to 150 hours, and boosting sites use roughly 150 hours as a working figure for Forever, with more than half of it spent in the 40s and 50s. Use 150 hours as a planning benchmark, not a fact. Starting on November 4, it works out like this:

Play time per dayDays to 60 at 150 hoursApproximate date at 60
1 hour150April 3, 2027
2 hours75January 18, 2027
3 hours50December 24, 2026
4 hoursAbout 38December 12, 2026
5 hours30December 4, 2026
6 hours25November 29, 2026

Blizzard's roadmap opens the launch raids and Onyxia's Lair on December 9, which is 35 days after launch. Hitting 60 by then would take about 4.3 hours a day at the 150-hour benchmark. If raiding on day one matters to you, plan around that number and expect it to change once the beta and launch show real figures.

Picking a Class & Race

Blizzard says classes are meant to stay simple but distinct, and that combat keeps Classic's deliberate pace. It also reworked racial abilities so every race has two active and two passive abilities, added a new 16-point talent milestone, and introduced six new race and class combinations: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. The new Skyborne race is playable for both factions and starts on Zephras Isle.

No one has measured how fast each class levels in Forever. In Classic, ranged and pet classes with strong sustain, such as Mages, Warlocks and Hunters, were usually the fastest solo levelers, while healing and tank-oriented specs were slower. Forever's talent and class changes may alter that, so treat it as a starting assumption. Choose with these questions instead:

For talent and race picks, see the Icy Veins class guides.

Bracket-by-Bracket Route

Blizzard has not published a Forever route. The table below uses Classic's zone ranges, which remain valid because Forever keeps fixed zone difficulty, and adds the new content Blizzard has announced. Forever also layers new quests into existing zones, so expect to skip or reorder parts once you can see them in game.

LevelsAlliance (Classic baseline)Horde (Classic baseline)Forever additions
1–12Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, TeldrassilDurotar, Mulgore, Tirisfal GladesNew NPCs, quests and profession hooks in every starter zone. Skyborne start on Zephras Isle (1–12).

30–40Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale, DesolaceThousand Needles, Stranglethorn Vale, DesolaceExpanded Desolace, Shen'dralas (range unpublished), the Drowned City dungeon, Riverglades opens in the mid-30s.

50–60Un'Goro Crater, Felwood, Azshara, Burning Steppes, the Plaguelands, Winterspring, SilithusSame zonesShaper's Terrace, Alcaz Prison, and Mount Hyjal as the endgame leveling zone.

How to use it. Finish the zone you are in before you jump to the next one, keep two or three quest hubs stacked so you are never walking back, and note the flight path at each stop. When the level range for a new zone is unpublished, such as Shen'dralas, inspect it when you are nearby and only commit if its quests line up with your level.

The New Zones

Zephras Isle (Levels 1–12)

The Skyborne starting zone, deliberately isolated from the rest of the world the way Teldrassil and the Undead start are. Reports say playing there requires the Skyborne race, which comes with an upgrade pack rather than a subscription alone.

Riverglades (Mid-30s to Mid-40s)

A frontier zone in a previously unreachable part of the Eastern Kingdoms, bordering Burning Steppes, Redridge, Swamp of Sorrows and the Badlands. It carries more than 150 quests for both factions, new reputations, and a neutral goblin port called Powderfuse Port. It is built for the stretch where Classic leveling thins out, and it is also designed so you can drop in for a few levels and return to Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace or Arathi Highlands. Krol'dok Stronghold, an outdoor ogre dungeon, sits inside it.

Shen'dralas

A hidden Kalimdor zone south of Desolace, tied to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas and Dire Maul. Blizzard has not published a level range, so do not plan around one. It may replace part of the old Kalimdor route if its quests match your level.

Mount Hyjal (Level 60)

Blizzard's endgame leveling zone, set after Archimonde's defeat. It hosts Hyjal Summit, a 20-player raid, and one entrance to the 10-player Barrow Deeps. Both raids open on December 9, 2026.

Dungeons

With monster XP reduced and quest XP raised, the plan is to run each dungeon in your bracket once, for the quests and the blue boss drops, and return to open-world questing. Cross-ruleset grouping is not supported and factions cannot group, so plan groups on your ruleset. Trackers have named most of the nine new dungeons, but level ranges vary between sources, so treat this table as reported and check the in-game journal:

The remaining dungeon is reported as a Wetlands instance whose final name has not been confirmed. Classic's original dungeons, such as Deadmines, Scarlet Monastery and Blackrock Depths, remain part of the 1–60 world.

Professions While Leveling

Blizzard is adding more than 600 recipes and wants profession choice to matter at low level. Every profession has three camp objects learned at different skill levels, and the first arrives at skill 20 from camping NPCs or trainers. Practical rules:

Camps, Food & Rested XP

The Cooking Fire is now a Basic Campfire. Blizzard says a camp can offer vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs after you sit for a moment. It holds up to three crafted objects, one per player, sharing a one-hour cooldown. Profession buffs are variants of class buffs and do not stack with them. For leveling, the value is in convenience: repair and vendor stops in the field mean fewer trips to town, and a group can prepare for a dungeon together. Whether campfires also accumulate rested XP has not been clearly stated, so check that in the beta.

Legacy & Alts

Legacy Points are earned account-wide by completing Legacy Challenges, such as leveling a specific class or reaching a skill milestone. Each character can spend up to 16 points at launch across the Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness trees, and the account can earn up to 65 for a cosmetic reward track. For leveling, Well Rested (Adventure) raises rested XP gains and the rested cap, which helps most on alts. Reagent Economy (Resourcefulness) removes reagent needs from class abilities.

Do not level a second class purely to farm points if it delays your main. The system is built to reward the journeys you are already taking, and Blizzard says the cap is meant to keep new players from feeling behind.

Travel

There is no flying, so every trip is on the ground or by flight path, boat or hearthstone. Blizzard presented three new ship routes tied to Stormwind, Menethil and Tanaris, plus an expanded Wetlands and a new route into Riverglades. Unlock every flight path as you go, plan your hearthstone for the end of a hub instead of the middle, and group errands so you never walk the same road twice. Icy Veins has published a walkthrough for skipping the infamous Wetlands death run.

Rulesets & Hardcore

You pick a ruleset instead of a realm: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, and Hardcore after launch. Normal keeps player-versus-player combat opt-in by mutual consent, PvP makes contested zones more dangerous, and Hardcore will be a fully enclosed ecosystem with permanent death. A Hardcore character that dies can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP. Collections and Legacy Points stay account-wide except in Hardcore. Pick for how you want to play, and remember Blizzard has not said you can switch freely.

Beta Checklist

If you have beta access, characters and progress will not carry over, and the cap stops you at 20 and then 30. It is still your only chance to measure things before launch:

  1. Time from level 1 to 10, 10 to 20 and 20 to 30, on the same class, so you can extrapolate carefully.
  2. How long a typical normal creature takes to kill at each stage, against the 10–15 second benchmark.
  3. XP from a first dungeon clear compared with the same hour of questing.
  4. Whether crafted food's XP bonus is noticeable.
  5. What camps offer, and whether resting affects rested XP.
  6. How much you gain from Well Rested.
  7. Downtime per level for your class: eating, drinking and recovery.
  8. Travel time between hubs, and whether the new ship routes save time.

Launch Plan

  1. Before November 4: decide on a ruleset and class. Name reservation is reported to open on October 27 for upgrade-pack owners.
  2. Day 1: start at your normal pace, take two professions, and follow your starter zone's quests.
  3. Weeks 1 to 2: track your hours per level so you can estimate your own date at 60.
  4. Mid-30s: decide whether to shift into Riverglades or continue in Classic zones.
  5. By December 9: if you want to raid, check your pace against the 4.3 hours a day benchmark and adjust.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to level to 60 in WoW Forever?

Nobody has measured it yet because the beta stops at level 30. Strong Classic players are commonly said to take 100 to 150 hours, and boosting sites use about 150 hours as a working figure for Forever. Treat that as a planning benchmark.

Is the XP curve different from Classic?

Developers say the curve from 1 to 60 is unchanged from Classic. What changed is that dungeon monster XP is reduced and dungeon quest XP is raised, and Forever adds more than 1,000 new quests.

Can I buy a level boost in WoW Forever?

Not from Blizzard. Developers said in a BlizzCon interview that there are no plans for a WoW Token or paid character boosts. Third-party services that take your login carry account risk.

Where should I level from 35 to 45?

Riverglades is the new zone built for the mid-30s to mid-40s, with more than 150 quests for both factions. You can also drop in for a few levels and return to Classic zones such as Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace or Arathi Highlands.

Are dungeons a good way to level?

Once each. The first clear rewards quest XP and blue boss drops, but Blizzard has reduced dungeon monster XP so repeatedly running the same dungeon no longer levels you quickly.

What is the beta level cap?

The beta opened at level 20 and rises to level 30 after a couple of weeks. It runs from September 17 to October 21, 2026, and nothing carries over to launch.

Do I need to buy something to play the Skyborne race?

Reports say the Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle starting zone come with an upgrade pack, while the base game is included with an active WoW subscription or game time.

What is the best class for leveling in WoW Forever?

It has not been measured. In Classic, ranged and pet classes with good sustain were usually fastest solo, but Forever changed talents and racials. Pick a class you will enjoy at 60, then check community data after launch.
