Inter-Knot Level Progression

ZZZ's Inter-Knot Level is the account-wide progression metric, advanced through story completion, commissions, and combat activities — it gates access to higher-difficulty Shiyu Defense stages and other endgame content.

Agent Leveling and Core Skill Upgrades

Individual Agent levels are capped by Ascension, requiring materials tied to specific weekly bosses or Hollow Zero activities — planning around which Agents you'll actually use in your team comps avoids wasted resources.

W-Engines and Drive Discs

W-Engines (ZZZ's weapon-equivalent system) provide stat bonuses and often a build-defining passive, while Drive Discs (the artifact-equivalent gear) are farmed from combat content and socketed in sets for bonus effects — both layer on top of Agent level to determine actual combat effectiveness.

Drive Disc farming is generally the slowest, most RNG-dependent part of long-term account building, similar to artifact/Relic farming in comparable titles — most efficient players accept "good enough" Disc stats early and revisit optimization later rather than blocking progression on perfect rolls.

Battery Charge Management

ZZZ's stamina system (Battery Charge) caps daily combat-based farming, making efficient spending on priority Agent upgrades the main lever on effective progression speed, similar to other gacha-style stamina systems.

Daily Commissions and Hollow Zero

Daily Commissions provide steady rewards with minimal time investment, while Hollow Zero runs grant Agent-specific materials — see our ZZZ F2P Progression Guide for the wider account economy.

Shiyu Defense Benchmark

Shiyu Defense is ZZZ's recurring combat-difficulty benchmark mode, similar in role to Genshin's Spiral Abyss or HSR's Memory of Chaos — clearing it fully each cycle grants strong rewards and is the standard way experienced players measure whether their Agent roster and Disc builds are genuinely endgame-ready.

Because Shiyu Defense scoring often rewards clear speed on top of just winning, treating it as a benchmark to revisit and improve upon (rather than a one-time clear) helps identify which Agents or Drive Disc sets need further investment.

Paid Progression Services

Paid account-progression services exist but carry real account-security risk. Check our vendor rankings and read the safety guide before considering this route.

Inter-Knot Progression Is Only One Part of Account Growth

Zenless Zone Zero progression includes account-level unlocks alongside Agent levels, skills, W-Engines, Drive Discs, and team development. Raising one number without improving the active squad can leave later combat inefficient.

Follow Story and Commission Unlocks

Main progression and commissions open systems and activities while providing experience and materials. Complete available unlock content before spending large amounts of Battery charge solely to force account-level progress.

Build a Functional Core Team First

Concentrate resources on Agents whose roles work together. Keeping a primary damage dealer and supporting teammates appropriately developed usually opens more content than distributing materials evenly across the entire roster.

Spend Battery Charge on the Current Bottleneck

Use limited daily energy for Agent ascension, skills, W-Engines, or other materials that create the next meaningful power increase. Avoid speculative farming far ahead of your actual progression needs.

Drive Disc Optimization Comes Later

Early and midgame builds benefit from functional set bonuses and appropriate main stats without requiring perfect rolls. Save intensive endgame farming for the point where stronger content makes high-quality Disc acquisition efficient.

Complete Resetting Content Before Permanent Grinds

Events and periodic activities can provide resources that expire or reset. Prioritize worthwhile limited rewards, then return to story, exploration, or permanent progression that remains available.

Inter-Knot Progression Unlocks the Account

Zenless Zone Zero progression is tied to Inter-Knot level and story advancement, which open activities, difficulties, and upgrade caps. Complete commissions and core progression rather than grinding one resource exclusively.

Character Level Is Only One Power Layer

Agents also depend on W-Engines, skills, Core Skill upgrades, Drive Discs, promotion, team synergy, and other current systems. Raise these together when a new difficulty creates a power wall.

Build One Reliable Team Before Spreading Resources

A focused squad reaches useful breakpoints faster than a large roster with incomplete upgrades. Expand when Shiyu-style or other endgame content requires additional teams.

Battery Charge Should Target the Current Bottleneck

Use energy on promotion materials, skills, W-Engines, currency, or Drive Discs according to the upgrade that produces the next meaningful gain. Avoid overfarming speculative gear early.

Drive Disc Optimization Is a Later Efficiency Problem

Correct sets and main stats provide a strong baseline before perfect substats matter. Secure guaranteed progression first, then invest heavily in randomized optimization.

Events and Weekly Content Add Efficient Progress

Limited events and reset-based activities can provide materials, currency, and premium rewards. Complete worthwhile expiring rewards before spending all available time on permanent stages.

Inter-Knot Progression and Agent Development Are Separate

Zenless Zone Zero progression includes Inter-Knot level, Agent levels, W-Engines, skills, Drive Discs, Bangboo or current systems, and account unlocks. Spend Battery Charge and upgrade materials around a small team that can clear current content reliably.

Reassess the Route After Important Unlocks

New equipment, higher difficulty, a stronger team, account systems, seasonal updates, or market changes can alter the best activity. Judge full sessions by useful progression after travel, failures, consumables, inventory work, and waiting rather than by a single advertised reward rate.

Zenless Zone Zero Progression Requires More Than Inter-Knot Level

Inter-Knot progress, Agent levels, W-Engines, skills, Drive Discs, Bangboo or current systems, quests, and account unlocks all contribute to power. Spend Battery Charge around a focused team and prioritize reliable upgrades.

Use the Next Meaningful Unlock as the Benchmark

Compare activities by the useful progress they produce after travel, setup, consumables, failures, inventory work, market delays, and other friction. Reassess after major upgrades, new zones, seasonal changes, or patches because priorities can shift quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's ZZZ's account-wide progression metric?

Inter-Knot Level, advanced through story completion, commissions, and combat activities, gating access to higher-difficulty Shiyu Defense stages.

What limits daily Agent progression in ZZZ?

Battery Charge (the stamina system) caps daily combat-based farming, making efficient spending on priority Agent upgrades the main lever on progression speed.

Is Drive Disc farming worth optimizing early?

Not usually — like Relic or artifact farming in similar games, it's slow and RNG-heavy, so most players accept "good enough" Discs early and revisit optimization once their Agent roster is developed.

What is Shiyu Defense used for?

It's the standard combat-difficulty benchmark — clearing it fully each cycle grants strong rewards and helps measure whether your roster and builds are genuinely endgame-ready.

Should I upgrade every Agent in ZZZ?

No — planning around which Agents you'll actually use in your team comps avoids wasting limited Battery Charge and materials on Agents you won't field.
