- Old School RuneScape: 4.29 million bans and 26.8 trillion gold removed in 2025.
- RuneScape: 135,000 bans and 30.5 trillion gold removed.
- Real-world trading alone: over 139,000 Old School bans and over 8,000 RuneScape bans.
- Jagex says its false positive rate on appeals is “still less than 1%”.
The numbers
Jagex published its Player Support 2025 roundup on December 10, 2025. It covers both games:
- Old School RuneScape: 4.29 million bans, 26.8 trillion gold removed.
- RuneScape: 135,000 bans, 30.5 trillion gold removed.
- Real-world trading: more than 139,000 Old School bans and more than 8,000 RuneScape bans for RWT offences.
- Reports: 1.4 million cheating reports led to action.
The ban totals are not split into bots and other offences.
Appeals and buyers
Jagex said it had processed 89,000 ban appeals since relaunching appeals in September. Most bans were upheld; where they were lifted, the most common reason was that a hijacker, not the owner, had broken the rules. It put the false positive rate at “still less than 1%”.
The roundup also restated the September change to how gold buyers are treated: buying is meant to act as a deterrent and to cut demand for gold from illicit sellers (see our September story).
What it means for buyers
139,000 real-world trading bans in a year means buying OSRS gold is not a rare-risk activity any more. The gold side matters too: tens of trillions removed from both games, much of it from bots, is gold that was sold or about to be. Bonds are the official route; see official ways to buy currency and the Old School RuneScape page.
