Read This First: Edition Is the Whole Ballgame
This guide is for the SEA service — the NetEase-operated edition launched December 7, 2023. Square Enix transferred the game’s global publishing to NetEase in January 2025; no edition has an end-of-service announced. The one verified top-up (SEAGM) names the SEA edition in its product title and delivers by Player ID. A second shop’s CotC top-up could not be confirmed as this edition and is not listed — rubies credited to the wrong service cannot be moved.
The framing fact about the earned side: rubies are the summoning currency, and the game pays them through its permanent systems rather than through any repeatable stage — which makes the free economy a checklist economy. The farm is finishing the lists.
The Earned Loop: Feats, Hunts, Story, Logs
The free rubies live in the permanent systems: feats (the game’s achievement layer) pay milestones as the roster and story advance; hunts pay their scheduled rewards; story content — the October 1 maintenance added the Side Task “The Unchosen One – Prologue” alongside its banner — pays first-clear rubies as it lands; and the Cascade Log’s updates pay the explorer’s share. None of it is repeatable at a grinder’s rate, and all of it together is the real free income: a checklist cleared is worth more than a stage replayed.
New content is therefore an income event, not just a spending one: every maintenance that adds story, tasks or log entries adds free rubies to the accounts that play it. The roughly weekly SEA cadence through August and September 2026 is the farm’s calendar.
STEP UP Banners: Where Rubies Go
Rubies are spent on guidance — the summons — and the banner structure decides their value: the October 1 paid STEP UP for the Fallen Swordsman guarantees a 5-star-or-better traveler on its fifth step, with a 50% rate that he is the one. A guarantee converts rubies from lottery tickets into a priced purchase, which is the only honest way to compare a top-up against earned income: price the guaranteed step in rubies, price the rubies in weeks of checklist play, and the banner’s real cost is standing in front of you.
Free and paid rubies are also different instruments in this game’s structure — paid STEP UP banners are a paid-ruby product — so an earned stockpile does not substitute for a paid one on the banners that matter most. Budget them separately.
Earning Without Waste
- Clear the checklists: feats, hunts and new story/tasks on the maintenance cadence are the free income — unplayed content is unclaimed rubies.
- Price banners by their guarantee: a STEP UP’s fifth-step promise is a fixed cost in rubies; a no-guarantee banner is a lottery at the same price per pull.
- Keep free and paid rubies as separate budgets — the banners that carry guarantees are paid-ruby products.
- If you top up, use the route that names this edition: SEAGM’s SEA top-up, by Player ID — and copy the ID, because a credit to the wrong account cannot be pulled back.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you earn free rubies in CotC (SEA)?
Through the permanent systems: feats as milestones land, hunts on their schedule, first clears of story and side tasks as maintenance adds them (the October 1, 2026 update added “The Unchosen One – Prologue”), and Cascade Log exploration. It is a checklist economy — the farm is finishing the lists as the roughly weekly content cadence extends them.
How are CotC (SEA) Rubies top-ups delivered?
By Player ID at the one verified vendor: SEAGM’s page states the flow in its own words — enter your Player ID, select the amount, complete payment, and the Rubies are added shortly. No password is involved. Note the product names the SEA edition outright; a second shop’s top-up could not be confirmed as this edition and is not listed.
Is the SEA edition of CotC shutting down?
No. The SEA service (NetEase, since December 7, 2023) is live and updated — a content maintenance landed October 1, 2026. Square Enix’s January 2025 transfer of global publishing to NetEase was a handover, not a closure, and no edition of the game has an end-of-service announced.
What is the latest CotC (SEA) update?
The October 1, 2026 maintenance on the official SEA site: the 6-star Warrior Champion of Memories (the Fallen Swordsman) with a paid STEP UP whose fifth step guarantees 5-star-or-better at a 50% rate for him, the Side Task “The Unchosen One – Prologue”, the Dreadwrought Domain, and EX Millard / EX Lumis adjustments. Our Patch Watch entry tracks the dated notices.
