Monster Hunter: World Master Rank Guide (Iceborne)

Master Rank is Iceborne's endgame ladder. It removes the Hunter Rank cap and then gates progress behind specific hunts. This guide lays out the unlock steps, the cap quests and the fastest sources the two guides we could read agree on.

Read This First

This ladder is climbed by hunting. We read no source that describes a legitimate rank-boost market, so we rank no sellers, and any service that asks for your account login is a risk you take outside the game.

All facts below are Reported, from Game8 and GamingBolt guides. We could not read Capcom's own pages. Neither source gave Master Rank points per quest, so we do not state them.

Unlocking Master Rank

Game8 gives three steps:

  1. Complete the main story quest Land of Convergence.
  2. Speak with the Feisty Fiver in Astera.
  3. Track the Legiana in the Ancient Forest with the Handler, which triggers an event with the Commander.

Game8 says you then unlock MR1 and your Hunter Rank cap is removed.

The Rank Gates

Game8 says story progress and exploration can take you to MR49, and that you gain access to the Guiding Lands after defeating Shara Ishvalda and Ruiner Nergigante. After that, three hunts raise the cap:

To go pastQuestHunt
MR49Sleep Now in the FireTempered Rathian and Tempered Nightshade Paolumu
MR69Big Burly BashTempered Brachydios and Tempered Glavenus
MR99To the Very Ends with YouRuiner Nergigante

Game8 gives MR200 as the highest documented rank, unlocked by Master Hunter of the New World, with special quests at MR125, MR150 and MR175 that upgrade equipment such as the Impact Mantle and Temporal Mantle.

GamingBolt describes the same gates differently: it ties the four regional monsters to Master Rank 49 plus level 4 in all regions, and puts Ruiner Nergigante at MR99 after To the Very Ends With You. We report both and do not reconcile the wording.

Raising It Faster

GamingBolt (Reported) recommends:

Neither guide gave per-hunt rank points, so we do not say which of these is fastest.
