Steal an Egg Progression Guide: Speed Is the Level — Treadmills, Trails & Biome Gates

Steal an Egg has no character level. Progression is two numbers leaning on each other: your speed, which gates the biomes, and your pets’ income per second, which pays for speed. “Leveling” is the discipline of spending in the order that compounds — treadmill before trails before slots, income before distance — and of reading failed runs correctly, because the game tells you exactly what to fix every time you get caught.

Read This First: The Two Numbers

Speed is the gate; income is the key. Every biome posts a recommended speed, and every treadmill tier, trail and pet exists to move one of the two numbers. A player earning $5M/sec buys upgrades exponentially faster than one earning $50K/sec with identical speed — so the standing rule of every progression guide is: build income before chasing distance.

The gates themselves (community tables): Lake 900, Desert 10K, Jungle 40K, Snow 170K, Volcano 700K, Abyss Ocean 2.5M, Prehistoric 17M, Cosmic 700M, Cherry Blossom 2.5B, with a named guardian watching each nest. Treat them as a checklist, not a wall — each one you pass converts into eggs, and eggs convert into the income that passes the next.

The Upgrade Order

The pet wiki’s priority path is the consensus because the maths is unforgiving: treadmills first — the treadmill sets how much speed each training session adds, and a weak treadmill makes every future grind slower; speed trails second — a trail multiplies your total speed, so a 2x trail doubles all the treadmill work behind it; pet slots third — expand the pen once you can consistently steal from a high-paying zone, so the new slots hold earners worth holding; hatch-speed upgrades last, a luxury for the late game.

The mirror-image mistake is spending early income on pen space and cosmetics while the treadmill is weak: slots full of low earners produce low income slowly. Multipliers come first because they multiply everything after them.

Converting Speed into Income

Speed alone earns nothing — it has to be cashed in as eggs. Each new biome’s eggs hatch a tier above the last (the farming guide has the ladder), so a progression session ends with hatching, not with a speed number: clear weak pets out before you go stealing so the good egg has somewhere to land, hatch, and let the new payroll fund the next treadmill tier. Server-hopping for heavier eggs is a real technique at the top end — a heavier egg hatches a pet with a visibly larger income figure — but it only pays in biomes you can already reach and escape.

Update cadence works for the patient: near-weekly numbered updates keep adding biomes and pets (Update 9’s Halloween Dimension on October 17, 2026 added 3 biomes and 18 pets), so a route that is a wall this month may be a farm next month.

Buying Progression

The market’s progression-shaped product is a service, not a login: Eldorado’s Treadmill Service raises your speed in game alongside you, and its Random Eggs service has a provider farm endgame-zone eggs and drop them at your feet to hatch — both under TradeShield, neither involving your password. Pets themselves sell on Eldorado and IGGM ($0.49 to $23.99 at our check) on Character Name delivery. All of it is in our buying guide. See the Steal an Egg page for the reviewed market.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you level up in Steal an Egg?

There is no XP level: progression is speed (which gates biomes) and pet income (which pays for speed). Upgrade the treadmill first, then a speed trail, then pen slots — and convert each new biome into hatched earners before pushing deeper.

What speed do I need for each biome?

Per the community tables: Lake 900, Desert 10K, Jungle 40K, Snow 170K, Volcano 700K, Abyss Ocean 2.5M, Prehistoric 17M, Cosmic 700M, Cherry Blossom 2.5B — and hold 15 to 20 percent above the number for heavy eggs, which slow you on pickup.

Should I upgrade my treadmill or buy a trail first?

Treadmill first: it sets how much speed each training session adds, so it compounds. Trails multiply the total you have built, so they pay most once the treadmill has built something worth multiplying.

Is there a boosting service for Steal an Egg?

An in-game one: Eldorado’s Treadmill Service gets your speed to the latest zone’s milestone in hours or minutes instead of days of grinding, performed in game under TradeShield — no account handover or login is part of the fetched service description.
