Division 2 progression is in a transition. Wikipedia's article still describes an older season and says the game uses a Gear Score at endgame, while Windows Central reported in 2024 that Gear Score and World Tiers were removed in favor of one level 40 endgame. We trust the more recent report, but we could not read Ubisoft's own Gear Score support page, so confirm in game.

The point of the table is that old guides are often wrong. Anything that says “World Tier” or “Gear Score 500” for the main game was written before 2024.

Level 1 to 30: The Campaign

The base game takes you from level 1 to 30 through the Washington D.C. campaign. Windows Central's 2020 explainer says players reached level 30, then entered an endgame that used World Tiers and a Gear Score cap of 500. That model has since been simplified. In 2024, Windows Central said the standard edition includes a level 30 boost, so a returning player can jump the campaign.

Level 30 to 40: New York

Wikipedia says Warlords of New York raised the level cap from 30 to 40 and introduced the SHD level, an infinite progression system that unlocks permanent skills. Windows Central's 2020 piece adds that SHD levels replaced Field Proficiency caches every time you fill the bar. According to the same article, enemies show their level over their heads between 30 and 40.

The 2024 change matters for new players: Windows Central reported that everyone who buys the game now plays up to level 40 and shares the same endgame content pool.

Battle for Brooklyn

Ubisoft (Confirmed) describes the DLC as released on May 27, 2025, adding two neighborhoods (Heights and Dumbo) with three main missions, two story missions and four replayable world missions in an autumn setting. It introduces the Cleaners' Purple Flame, which causes a Corrosion effect, a returning Smart Cover skill in Precision and Fortified variants, eight Hunter riddles with exclusive masks, and the Catalyst exotic mask. It requires the base game, is in the Gold and Ultimate editions and includes a level 40 boost.

Seasons Are the Endgame

Wikipedia says Year 2 introduced seasons of about 12 weeks. A season is where the new loot, modifiers and activities live. In Year 8, Ubisoft's announcements describe:

The season pass is optional: Ubisoft lists it at 1,000 Premium Credits ($9.99), with a bundle at $29.99.

The 10th Anniversary RPG Overhaul

WorthPlaying's report on the anniversary season says an RPG overhaul streamlined gear management with visible stat roll ranges, the return of god rolls and a redesigned recalibration system for better build planning (Reported). We could not find Ubisoft's own page for these changes, so treat them as the outlet's reading.

What Is Next

Ubisoft's Gamescom post says crossplay arrives in November 2026 with clan capacity doubling from 50 to 100 and leaderboards resetting. Echoes of Central Park is reported for November 3 (Reported), and Season 4 will rework Prototype Gear progression. A leaderboard reset means any ranking goals should wait for November.

Where to Start

  1. Decide whether you need the boost. The level 30 boost skips the campaign. Skip it if you want the story.
  2. Finish to 30, then go to New York if you want SHD levels and permanent skills.
  3. Add Battle for Brooklyn if you want more story and the Smart Cover skill.
  4. Play the current season for the loot Ubisoft is actively supporting.
