Square Enix’s weekly report for late January and early February shows how much of the RMT fight is about chat spam.

Key points

  • From January 29 to February 4, 2026, Square Enix terminated 3,027 accounts for RMT advertising.
  • 599 accounts were terminated and 145 suspended for taking part in RMT or other prohibited activities.
  • Only 4 accounts were terminated and 27 suspended for botting outside RMT vendors.

The numbers

Square Enix posts a weekly “Actions Taken Against In-Game RMT & Other Illicit Activities” notice on the Lodestone. The one published February 5, 2026, covering January 29 to February 4, lists 3,027 accounts terminated for RMT advertising, the gil-seller shouts and tells that players see in cities. Another 599 accounts were terminated and 145 temporarily suspended for participating in RMT or other prohibited activities. Botting by accounts that were not RMT vendors was small by comparison: 4 terminated, 27 suspended.

Reading the split

Advertising accounts are the most visible part of RMT, and they are banned in by far the largest numbers. The 599 terminations for participating in RMT are the line that can include customers. Square Enix does not split that number into buyers and sellers.

What it means for buyers

The ads you see in Limsa or Ul’dah are the riskiest way to buy gil: the advertiser is banned within days, and participating in RMT is its own termination category. Square Enix keeps publishing these reports every week, so the enforcement is steady, not occasional. See the Final Fantasy XIV page for rated sellers and how to avoid trading scams.
