The numbers
Square Enix posts a weekly report on the Lodestone titled “Actions Taken Against In-Game RMT & Other Illicit Activities”. The two most recent reports cover September 17 to 23 and September 24 to 30, 2026.
| Category | Sep 17–23 | Sep 24–30 | Two weeks |
|---|---|---|---|
| RMT & prohibited activities: terminated | 497 | 470 | 967 |
| RMT & prohibited activities: suspended | — | 1 | 1 |
| RMT advertising: terminated | 386 | 355 | 741 |
| Botting: terminated | 3 | 6 | 9 |
| Botting: suspended | 35 | 60 | 95 |
— = no figure listed in that week’s report.
That is 1,717 terminations in fourteen days. The reports do not say how much gil was removed. In both, Square Enix repeats that “Real money trading (RMT) and other illicit activities upset the balance of the game and, as such, are prohibited under the Terms of Service.”
Why the weekly rhythm matters
Roughly 500 RMT terminations a week is not a one-off ban wave. It is steady background enforcement, which means seller accounts are being closed all the time. Gil sellers rotate through new characters to keep up, and the accounts that receive gil are visible at the moment of delivery.
What it means for buyers
If a gil seller’s delivery character is terminated mid-order, your order can stall or vanish, so use sellers that offer a delivery guarantee or refund and keep the first order small. Remember that the Terms of Service prohibit RMT on both sides of the trade. Compare reviewed sellers and their guarantees on our Final Fantasy XIV page, and read how to buy FFXIV gil safely first.
