Key points

  • A May 19, 2026 announcement targets “low-price discounted gifts,” unauthorized top-ups and malicious chargebacks.
  • Accounts behind these schemes face long-term or permanent bans, and the publisher says it may take legal action.
  • Items from unauthorized top-ups or charged-back gifts are recovered. If they were used, their value is deducted from Echo Beads, which can go negative and lock some features.
  • A cooldown between adding a friend and sending them a gift is coming.

What the announcement says

On May 19, 2026, Where Winds Meet published an “Announcement on Crackdown Against Unofficial Trading and Recovery of Illegal Items.” It describes players using low-price discounted gifts as bait to pull others into unofficial trades and black-market fraud. Accounts confirmed to be behind this face long-term or permanent bans, and the publisher says it may pursue legal action.

Accounts that start malicious chargebacks, or push other players into offline payments, are covered too.

How the scam works

As all.gg described it, a seller offers gifts at a discount, the buyer pays and receives them, and the seller then reverses the original payment with a chargeback. The game takes the gifted items back, and the buyer is left with nothing or with a negative balance.

The negative balance

Items from unauthorized top-ups and from gifts tied to chargebacks are recovered, including items made from them such as dye products. If they were already used, the equivalent value comes out of your Echo Beads. The balance can go below zero, and some features and modes stay restricted until it is positive again. Repeat or large-scale violators may be banned permanently.

The publisher says it “has never authorized any third-party platform for top-ups or discounted sales” and offers no compensation or help for losses from unofficial deals.

What it means for buyers

For this game, a cheap top-up is the riskiest thing you can buy: the seller can reverse the payment, and you end up paying for the recovered items out of your own balance. Buy Echo Beads in the game’s own store or on the platform you play on. If you still trade with other players, the Where Winds Meet page lists the sellers we have reviewed.
