Lost Ark Gold: The Currency Exchange and Amazon's Stance on RMT

Lost Ark has an official way to turn real money into gold, and Amazon Games has publicly described its enforcement against players who use third parties instead. This guide explains both so you can weigh the options with the facts in front of you.

How gold works

Gold is Lost Ark's main tradeable currency, earned from weekly content, raids, dungeons and selling materials or gear on the Auction House. Weekly gold caps and heavy spending on gear upgrades and engravings make progression gold-hungry, which is why new characters and alts create constant demand. The sanctioned route: the Currency Exchange

Lost Ark's in-game Currency Exchange lets players buy gold using Royal Crystals, the premium currency bought with real money. It is an official, supported way to convert cash into gold, though it is priced at a premium compared with what third-party sellers advertise. Amazon has also introduced a three-day withholding period on gold bought with restricted Royal Crystals: it is registered daily and becomes fully usable on the third day, and during the wait it cannot be used for mail, private trades, the Auction House, the Marketplace or loot auction bids. What Amazon Games says about RMT

In a February 2024 team update, Amazon Games said combating bots and player-to-player RMT is a key focus and that it had just carried out a major ban wave against accounts that transacted large amounts of RMT gold. It said infractions are punished on an escalating basis, taking into account the severity of the RMT and any previous infractions, up to and including permanent bans, and that it would not disclose all of its detection measures. The Terms of Service prohibit buying, selling, gifting or trading game content, including accounts and currency, with anyone unless expressly authorized.

Why the exchange has restrictions

Players report that Amazon also applies daily purchase limits, which are widely understood to target fraudulent payments, refund abuse and illegal trades. Some players who bought Royal Crystals through platform stores and then refunded the payment have been locked out of their accounts, and players have posted about being unable to appeal such actions. Whatever your route, buying through the official exchange with a payment you don't dispute is what keeps you clear of that pattern.

Risks of third-party gold

• Escalating penalties. Amazon says it escalates from lesser penalties to permanent bans, and it targets large transactions in particular.
• Source of gold. As in other games, gold sold cheaply often comes from bots or fraud, which is what enforcement waves target.
• Scams and chat spam. Players have long reported gold-selling bots flooding chat; unsolicited offers are almost always scams.

Earning gold instead
