Rocket League Ranked & Progression Guide

Rocket League has two kinds of progress: your account level, which comes from playing online, and your rank, which comes from winning. This guide explains both, using the season-level details we could confirm.

Psyonix does not publish exact rank thresholds, so every MMR figure below is from a third-party guide. The ranked structure comes from EsportsTalk's Season 23 article (July 2026) and its distribution numbers describe Season 22. The XP level system section comes from a June 2018 announcement and may have changed.

The Rank Structure

EsportsTalk (Reported) describes eight ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Champion, Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend. Every rank except Supersonic Legend has three tiers (I, II, III), and every tier has four divisions. That makes 22 rank steps in total.

Your rank is tracked separately for each competitive playlist: Standard 3v3, Doubles 2v2, Duel 1v1 and the rotating Extra Modes. Since Season 22, players can choose to show their MMR in their settings.

Placement and Resets

Each season you play ten placement matches per playlist before your rank shows. MMR carries over with a soft reset that nudges players toward the middle, so most players land within a tier of where they finished the previous season, per EsportsTalk.

How Much a Match Moves You

EsportsTalk says a match changes your MMR by about 9 points, adjusted for the strength of your opponents. Combine that with the fact that exact thresholds are unpublished, and the practical takeaway is that rank progress comes from win rate over many games, not from a single result. The page does not say how many points a division spans, so we do not guess a number of wins per division.

Season Rewards

To unlock a reward level you must win ten games at or above a given rank tier in any competitive playlist. At season end you receive the reward for your highest level reached. Season 24 adds a top-100 reward: one of five exclusive titles for finishing in the top 100 of a Soccar ranked leaderboard in 3v3, 2v2 or 1v1, per Rocket League's Season 24 post (Confirmed).

Ten wins at a tier is the milestone to aim for. EsportsTalk describes the requirement as winning ten games at or above the tier. It does not mention having to hold that rank at season end.

Where Players Sit

RankShare of players (Season 22, Standard)
Average playerGold III
Gold and Platinum combinedOver 60%
DiamondTop 3% to 15%
ChampionTop 0.2% to 3.4%
Grand Champion and Supersonic LegendUnder 0.5% combined

This puts the first ten-win reward within reach for most players, and the leaderboard titles in a different category entirely.

The Account Level System

Rocket League's June 2018 announcement (Confirmed, but dated) says XP is earned only in online matches. It listed bonuses for completing a match without quitting, consecutive matches in casual lobbies, joining games in progress, and weekly win multipliers. A level-up gave a random item of Uncommon quality or better, and the old level 75 cap was removed. Because this is from 2018, treat it as background rather than current rules.

How to Climb

  1. Play the playlist you can queue consistently. Rank is tracked per playlist.
  2. Finish your ten placement matches early in the season so your starting rank shows.
  3. Go for ten wins at your tier before worrying about the next division.
  4. Do not chase MMR numbers. The thresholds are unpublished.
