Key points
- From 04:00 UTC on October 20, 2026, PlayStation 4 updates ceased and PS4 players can no longer log in — the final step of a phased ending announced in March.
- The PlayStation 5 version continues as normal and player progress is unaffected; purchased-but-unclaimed PS4 items can only be claimed in the PS5 version after October 20.
- The phased timeline: PS4 delisted from the PlayStation Store April 7, 2026; in-game purchase items delisted September 22, 2026; updates and logins ended October 20.
- The stated reason: issues with performance optimization and application size limitations on PlayStation 4.
The ending
Perfect World’s official notice, “End of Support for Tower of Fantasy on PlayStation 4,” sets the final step plainly: “Starting at 04:00 on October 20, 2026 (UTC+0), updates for the PlayStation 4 version of Tower of Fantasy will officially cease. From this point onward, you will no longer be able to log in to the game on PlayStation 4.” It was the last step of a phased ending, not a sudden one: the PS4 version was delisted from the PlayStation Store on April 7, 2026, and its in-game purchase items were delisted on September 22, 2026. The reason given is “issues with performance optimization and application size limitations” on the older console.
What carries over
The same notice is equally plain about what does not end: “Support for the PlayStation 5 version will continue as normal, and your gameplay experience will not be affected. You’re welcome to enjoy the up-to-date game experience on PlayStation 5 and other supported platforms.” All of the changes apply to the PlayStation 4 version only, and player progress is unaffected. Two practical notes for PS4 players: purchased-but-unclaimed items can only be claimed in the PS5 version after October 20, and accounts can be linked through Settings, Basic, User Center.
The history
Tower of Fantasy, developed by Hotta Studio under Perfect World Games, first released in China on PC and mobile in December 2021, launched globally on PC and mobile in August 2022, and came to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 worldwide in August 2023. The PS4 version’s three-year console run ends with the PS5 version — and the PC and mobile versions — still running.
What it means for buyers
This is a platform ending, not a game ending — and that distinction is the whole buyer note. A Tower of Fantasy account’s value does not change because one console version closed, but a listing that does not say which platform its progress lives on is now actively misleading for PS4-only players: their version no longer logs in. PS5, PC and mobile progress is unaffected, and any account sold as a PS4 account after October 20 should be priced as a migration, not as a going concern.
