Albion Online Silver: The Gold Market and Sandbox Interactive's Rules
Albion Online has two currencies, silver and gold, and an official in-game exchange between them. That gives the game a sanctioned way to convert real money into silver: buy gold, then trade it for silver on the Gold Market. Anything else that involves real money is outside the rules, and Sandbox Interactive has been open about enforcing that.
How silver and gold work
Silver is Albion's main currency and is used for gear, materials and most transactions. Gold is the premium currency, used for Premium status and cosmetic items, and it can be bought with real money. The two can be exchanged in-game: players can use silver to buy gold and gold to buy silver through the Gold Market. Our Albion Online silver farming guide covers gathering, crafting and transport routes and how their returns differ by zone risk.
The sanctioned route, and its limits
Because the Gold Market lets you trade gold for silver, buying gold and exchanging it is the sanctioned way to turn money into silver. To protect the economy against payment fraud, Sandbox Interactive applies daily transaction limits to Gold-for-Silver trades until an account is verified as trusted; verification is requested through a prompt in the game and is usually processed within a day. The studio explains that the limits exist to guard against currency influx from payment fraud.
What the rules say
Sandbox Interactive's Terms and Conditions prohibit selling, purchasing, renting, leasing, offering or accepting virtual benefits, including virtual currency, within or outside the game, to or from third parties unless the terms or game rules expressly permit it. Any in-game system provided by the game, such as the Gold Market, constitutes an exception. The studio's own pages state that trading any in-game item or currency for real money is strictly prohibited.
What enforcement looks like
Sandbox Interactive has published notices about banning accounts for third-party currency transactions, including a forum announcement of 2,046 accounts banned in one wave, with the wording that an account had been “involved in third-party currency transactions” after trading with a known third-party seller. A studio support representative has also stated publicly that such activity results in a permanent ban without the possibility of creating a new account, that the penalty applies equally to buyer and seller, and that it can be applied during ban waves without prior notice. Moderators have separately said that trading very large amounts of silver with no comparable in-game source is what draws scrutiny, and that moving legitimately earned silver between your own accounts is not itself the issue.
Practical risks
- Permanent bans without a new account. The studio says the penalty is a permanent ban, and that new accounts are not allowed.
- Loss of everything. A ban affects the whole account, including gear, silver and gold, so the exposure is not limited to the silver you bought.
- Ban waves. Enforcement happens in batches, so an account can be actioned some time after the transaction.
- Scams. Fake sellers in chat and outside the game are common; unsolicited offers are almost always fraudulent.
Ways to earn silver
Gathering, refining and crafting for the market, and transporting goods between cities, remain the mainstays; the best method depends on your appetite for risk in the open world. Our Currency Calculator lets you compare hourly yields, and our leveling guide covers getting to the point where higher-value activities are available.
If you decide to buy from a third party
We cannot make a purchase compliant with the studio's terms, and we don't encourage breaking them. If you go ahead, never share your login, be wary of any offer to deliver silver through unusual trades, and read our Albion Online buying guide and the safety guides. The vendors above are scored on delivery, support, pricing and trust.
