Destiny 2 Accounts, Boosts and Carries: What Bungie Allows
Destiny 2 has no player-tradeable currency, so the third-party market is about accounts, account recoveries (boosts) and carries. Bungie treats those very differently, and understanding the difference is the key to staying safe.
Carries versus account recoveries
A carry is a service in which experienced players join your fireteam and help you complete an activity while you play your own account. In practice, carries have not been the target of Bungie's enforcement, and community discussion notes that some seal objectives involve helping others through difficult content. An account recovery (often sold as a boost) means giving your login to someone who plays your account for you. Bungie announced in 2021 that account recoveries can lead to bans, as reported by Gameranx, and handing your login to another player is account sharing in any case.
What the rules say
Bungie's policies state that players who violate the Code of Conduct or the license agreement may be restricted or banned from some or all Destiny content. Bans can be at the account level or at the device level; a device ban prevents any account from playing on that hardware, and players who buy a used console or PC that was previously banned cannot connect to Destiny with it. Bungie's help pages also say it will not ban players for using common third-party applications such as Discord or OBS, while circumventing platform incompatibilities (for example running the game on unsupported systems) is bannable.
Buying an account
Destiny 2 accounts are tied to platform accounts (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and others), and Bungie does not support account sales; check the current license agreement for the exact wording. A purchased account has the same drawbacks as elsewhere: recovery by the seller, stolen accounts and enforcement. On console, be aware that a ban can attach to the device, not only the account.
Practical risks
- Login sharing. Account recoveries hand over your credentials, which is the largest single risk.
- Device bans. Hardware associated with a banned account can be blocked for every account.
- Scams. Prepayment services that disappear are common.

- Use carries, not recoveries. Play your own account alongside experienced players.
