How Trading Works in Fortnite
There is no way to hand currency or items to another player, so anything sold outside the game is an account, a top-up or a boosting service.
A top-up or boost that needs your login gives the seller full access to your account, and most publishers treat shared logins as a rules break in their own right.

Fortnite Accounts and V-Bucks: What Epic Allows
Fortnite's economy revolves around V-Bucks, cosmetic skins and the accounts that hold them. There is no player-tradeable gold, so the third-party market is mostly about accounts, V-Bucks discounts and boosting. Epic's stance on all three is clear, and enforcement has become more visible. This guide explains the rules and the risks.
How the Fortnite economy works
V-Bucks are Fortnite's premium currency, bought from Epic or through platform stores and gift cards, and earned in smaller amounts through the Battle Pass and other features. Items in the Item Shop rotate, and some older cosmetics have not been available for years — which is exactly why certain accounts command high prices on third-party markets. Items and V-Bucks cannot be transferred between accounts, so any market in them is really a market in accounts or in access to them.
What Epic's rules say
Epic's terms and Fortnite support guidance say that accounts must be set up by the person using them, and that account buying, selling and sharing are not allowed. Bans that result from sharing an account are the account owner's responsibility. Epic's Terms also say that gifting or otherwise transferring accounts or access keys is prohibited. That means the buyer of a Fortnite account never receives a transferable right to it: Epic treats the account as the original owner's.
Enforcement is not only automated. In late 2025, media reports described Epic taking legal action against a player who sold accounts, ending in a lifetime ban and a settlement.
What can go wrong for buyers
- Recovery by the original owner. Sellers commonly still hold the account's original recovery details, and buyers report being locked out after the seller reclaims it.
- Stolen accounts. The cosmetics on a high-value account are exactly what account thieves target. A purchased account may have been taken from someone else and can be restored to its rightful owner.
- Enforcement. If Epic detects a transfer, the account can be suspended or banned, and everything on it is lost.
- Card-fraud V-Bucks. Heavily discounted V-Bucks are often bought with stolen payment methods; when a charge is reversed, the V-Bucks can be removed.
Boosting and account sharing
Fortnite rank and Battle Pass boosting services usually require logging in to your account, which is account sharing under Epic's rules. Beyond the ban risk, giving a stranger your credentials puts your linked payment methods and other games at risk, so use unique passwords and two-factor authentication.
Legitimate alternatives
- Buy V-Bucks from Epic or a platform store — the safe, sanctioned way to get the currency.
- Gift through the official gifting system where it is available, rather than transferring accounts.
- Earn progress in game. Our XP and resources farming guide and leveling guide show the fastest legitimate ways to level the Battle Pass.
If you decide to buy from a third party
We cannot make a purchase compliant with Epic's rules, and we don't encourage breaking them. Anyone who does should assume the account can be reclaimed, insist on full ownership transfer including recovery details, avoid any deal that starts with cheap V-Bucks codes, and use payment methods that allow disputes. Our Fortnite buying guide and safety guides go through the steps, and the vendors above are scored on delivery, support, pricing and trust.
