How Trading Works in Path of Exile 2
- Market
- Currency Exchange + official trade site
- Direct trade
- Yes, hideout trade window
- No
- Gold can't be traded between players; trades use orbs such as Exalted and Divine Orbs.
Orbs and items reach you through the trade window, usually after the seller joins your hideout.
Whatever the method, a seller never needs your password or a 2FA code to deliver currency. Anyone who asks for them is asking for your account.

Path of Exile 2 Currency: What to Know Before You Buy
Path of Exile 2 has no gold. Its economy runs on currency items — orbs that modify equipment and double as the units players trade in. That design shapes both how prices behave and how buying currency with real money works. This guide covers the essentials.
How the economy works
In Path of Exile 2, currency items such as Exalted Orbs, Divine Orbs and Chaos Orbs are simultaneously the tools you use to craft and the money you use to trade. Players list items for sale and buy them in currency, and the relative worth of each orb is set entirely by supply and demand. That means value can shift sharply with patches, new crafting systems and the popularity of a build. Our Path of Exile 2 currency farming guide covers where currency comes from and which activities pay best.
Early access, leagues and why timing matters
Path of Exile 2 launched in early access on December 6, 2024, and Grinding Gear Games has scheduled the full 1.0 release for December 11, 2026. During early access, the game receives substantial balance and system changes, and its seasonal structure means economies reset when a new league begins. For a buyer this has one important implication: currency you buy can lose value quickly, and anything held across a reset or a large patch may not be worth what you paid. Prices at the start of a league are also the most volatile.
What the rules say
Grinding Gear Games prohibits real-money trading of in-game currency and items, and the studio has publicly stated its opposition to RMT for years. Enforcement is aimed both at sellers and at accounts involved in unusual transfers. Reports in spring 2026 described a wave of account actions tied to RMT ahead of the 1.0 release; because the details of those actions come from secondary reporting, treat them as an indication of direction rather than a precise account of how enforcement works.
Risks specific to a currency-driven economy
- Provenance. Currency sold at a discount often comes from botting or compromised accounts. When GGG removes items or accounts, that can affect currency traded onward.
- Trade patterns. Large, sudden transfers from unfamiliar accounts stand out in an economy where most trades are small and item-based.
- Account security. As in any game, handing over your login for a “service” risks losing the account entirely.
Ways to get currency legitimately
Currency comes from mapping and endgame content, from selling drops on the official trade site, from crafting and from trading. Beyond the farming guide, our leveling guide covers getting through the campaign efficiently, because that is where most new players spend their first hours.
If you decide to buy from a third party
We cannot make a purchase comply with Grinding Gear Games' terms, and we don't encourage breaking them. If you do decide to go ahead, the avoidable risks are scams and account theft: never share your login, compare more than one seller, avoid deals that look too good, prefer payment methods that allow disputes, and record your order. Our Path of Exile 2 buying guide and the safety guides explain how, and the vendors above are scored on delivery, support, pricing and trust.
