How Trading Works in Call of Duty
There is no way to hand currency or items to another player, so anything sold outside the game is an account, a top-up or a boosting service.
A top-up or boost that needs your login gives the seller full access to your account, and most publishers treat shared logins as a rules break in their own right.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Launch
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrived on October 23, 2026, led by Infinity Ward, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 at midnight local time, with no PS4 or Xbox One version. Launch brought 20 maps, 33 weapons and 33 Operators, progression to Level 55 and two Prestige paths. A new release resets ranks, camos and prestige for everyone, so this is when boosting demand and fake listings both peak. Here are the confirmed dates, plus what has landed since launch.
PC preload opens
9am PT on Battle.net, Steam and Xbox on PC. Activision lists 115GB of SSD space at launch.
Campaign Early Access
For digital Standard and Vault pre-orders, a week before launch.
DMZ Early Access
DMZ opens three days early for anyone who pre-ordered or pre-purchased digitally.
Modern Warfare 4 launches
Multiplayer, Campaign and DMZ for everyone. Black Ops 7 Season 6 ends the same day.
Launch patches
Official patches across launch week: a DMZ disconnect fix, camo and Prestige display fixes, October 24 spawn and exploit fixes, and an October 25 change raising Search and Destroy Kill XP from 100 to 300.
Shipment arrives, DMZ exploit enforcement
Shipment joins multiplayer on October 27. The same day, Activision enforces against a DMZ duplication exploit — exploit enforcement, not a boosting crackdown.
October 28 patch: first weapon tuning
First weapon tuning update, plus Challenge, Killstreak and Quick Fix Perk fixes, DMZ exploit closures and Loadout/Exfil fixes, dive velocity cut 23% as a temporary exploit fix, playlist update including Shipment 24/7, Free-For-All score limit back to 30 and party cap 2.
Possession arrives
The Possession mode is scheduled for October 29.
Infected arrives
The Infected mode is scheduled for October 30.
Season 1: Warzone moves to MW4
Warzone integrates MW4 content and seasonal progression on November 6, and the PS4 and Xbox One versions stop working then. Season 1 was announced October 28 as the first free content update: new multiplayer maps (Backstab, Canyon, reimagined Shoot House) and modes, the XO1 DMZ Exclusion Zone, and Warzone maps Hajin and Zodiac.

Call of Duty Accounts and Boosting: Activision's Enforcement
Call of Duty has no tradeable currency, so the third-party market is accounts, unlock services and boosting. Activision's enforcement here is among the most aggressive in gaming, combining anti-cheat, hardware bans and legal action against resellers.
What Activision says about account sales
In March 2025, Activision's official Call of Duty Updates account stated that account reselling violates the terms of use and that any account knowingly sold will be permanently banned, adding that selling accounts threatens the integrity of the community. It also reminded players to secure their accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication.
The Security and Enforcement Policy
Activision's published policy describes RICOCHET anti-cheat and a range of penalties: restrictions from Ranked Play, limited matchmaking, temporary or permanent bans, and revocation of skill rating points and rewards. It states that hardware bans apply to the device, not the account, that they are not eligible for appeal, and that players should exercise caution when purchasing, borrowing or using secondhand, shared or publicly accessible devices, because hardware bans can remain on devices previously used for violations. Older enforcement policies also define boosting — colluding with others to exploit the game for XP, prestige or unlocks — as a bannable offense.
Legal and technical pressure on the market
In September 2026, Team RICOCHET reported disrupting more than 375 cheat resellers, issuing more than 80 cease-and-desist demands, shutting down 31 primary vendors and issuing over 70,000 new hardware bans in a single month, alongside hardware attestation requirements such as TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Activision says making stolen accounts harder to obtain raises replacement costs for cheaters. The estimates of the market's overall size come from a threat-intelligence firm cited by Activision, so treat them as indicative.
Practical risks
- Permanent bans on knowingly sold accounts. A purchased account can be banned outright.
- Hardware bans. They attach to the device and cannot be appealed, which is especially serious on PC.
- Stolen accounts. Many accounts on the secondary market are stolen and recoverable by the original owner.
- Boosting. Services that unlock weapons or camos through exploits or by logging in to your account risk suspensions and bans.
Safer options
Progress in game with the challenges and events covered in our Call of Duty XP and unlocks farming guide and leveling guide. Secure your own account with two-factor authentication.
If you decide to buy from a third party
We cannot make a purchase compliant with Activision's terms, and given its public statements, we advise against buying accounts. If you go ahead, never share your login, avoid used hardware with an unknown history, use a payment with dispute rights and read our Call of Duty buying guide and safety guides.
